The Wedding Day
This piece is a black and white etching done on clay board using a single edge razor blade and is called the wedding day. In the Maasai culture the marriages are pre arranged. When the terms are agreed upon the two families build a hut for the newlyweds. On the day of the wedding the father of the bride will meet his daughter at the entrance and as a blessing will pour a combination of cows blood and milk. This is to bring blessings and prosperity into their union. There is a tear in her eyes because on this day she will be leaving her childhood behind as they get married very young but may not be intimate for a few years after marriage.
